Story
My experience
As many of you will know i lost my mum to Dementia in May 2012 after she had endured a long and protracted battle with this illness.
I am incredibly proud that my wife has set up a local community interest company in Warwickshire for those individuals suffering from memory loss, and the impact that this has had on both service users and their carers to ensure that they have some well deserved respite.
From both my own personal experience and through Familiar Friends Day Club i have seen first hand that when someone develops dementia (which includes Alzheimer’s disease) it doesn’t just impact the person with the diagnosis – everyone around them is also affected in some way.
As a result i am always keen to support any cause which helps:
So what is the challenge?
On the 14th September, i will be taking on the 50KM Thames Path Challenge from Putney to Runnymede, walking together with a team of my NTT DATA Business Solutions UK colleagues. This will be by far the furthest i have ever walked, and for a middle aged man who's peak physical fitness is more than a distant memory, this will prove to be quite the challenge!
So why Dementia UK?
Dementia UK's specialist nurses, known as Admiral Nurses, provide free advice, support and understanding to help families care for their loved one. As experts in the condition, their tailored, life-changing support helps families through the fear and confusion of dementia. From sharing practical tips for caring, to offering compassionate emotional support and helping plan for the future, they are there when people impacted by the condition need them most.
I am delighted to support Dementia UK in order that they can grow the number of Admiral Nurses across the UK so every family affected by dementia can access their support – whenever they need it.
Together, we can ensure that no one has to face dementia alone.
