Story
I was diagnosed with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy Type 2A at the age of 16.
Since my diagnosis, my family have completed many events to raise money for Muscular Dystrophy UK, including an abseil in the Manchester Velodrome, a sponsored walk down Blackpool's Golden Mile, and various cake sales.
In 2017, my Dad reluctantly agreed to brave the Velocity zip wire in Snowdonia. Velocity was the longest zip wire in Europe at 1 mile long and the fastest in the world with speeds in excess of 100mph!
After raising over £800, the question on everyone's lips was "What's next?"
Well here's what's next! On Friday 14th April 2023, Dad will be climbing aboard a Boeing Stearman aircraft and taking to the skies. The flight will be reaching a height of 800ft and a maximum speed of 140mph!
Not impressed!?
How about the fact he will not be comfortably secured in the cockpit, but instead strapped to the top of the aircraft wings!!!
Yes, you read that correctly. John will be doing his first wing walking experience to raise much needed funds for Muscular Dystrophy UK!
John Tunnicliffe said,
I am so proud of my daughter as she worked hard to get through university and into full time work within the NHS. The condition means many of the things we all take for granted in life become an everyday challenge which become harder as time passes. The reason I am trying to raise funds for MDUK is because they have given support advice and friendship to my daughter and the research they carry out will one day help others with the many types of Muscular Dystrophy.
Please join me in wishing him all the luck in the world and help reach the target of £1,000 for Muscular Dystrophy UK.
