Story
I'm honored to serve on the Board of Communities In Schools (CIS) and I'm passionate about its mission: to ensure that all kids - regardless of economic status or their circumstances in life - have the resources and support they need to reach their potential. That first step is experiencing academic success, & subsequently graduating from high school.
I grew up privileged, with a network of support and caring adults that were committed to my success. For many students in CMS, they do not have this same community of support. This is where CIS plays a crucial role in helping to "level the playing field" for students who are historically underserved, particularly in Charlotte's Title I/high need schools. CIS places caring adults - our "Site Coordinators" - in 56 CMS high poverty schools, to work directly with students and parents, connecting them to a range of resources: from basic needs, to college and career prep, mental health support, and more. Whatever it takes.
I would ask that you please consider digging deep to help here. You have been generous in the past---for which I say Thanks, & I would ask you to do so again. OUR community's kids need all our support. It's mandatory that we work to broaden the reach of CIS.
Thank you.
