"In October 2022, my Mum was admitted to LOROS shortly before passing away. She had a rare type of cancer that rapidly got worse. She was on steroids that helped her to enjoy her final months, but once the efficacy wore off, her decline was rapid indeed. She didn’t want to pass away at home, and it had become too much for my dad to care for her too. When the call came to say LOROS had a place for her, you could see the relief in her face. When the ambulance came to collect her she probably knew she would never see home again, but she was so much more relaxed and at peace knowing she would be in such good hands.”
“My cousin Debbs struggled with her cancer on and off for a few years but it eventually became too much. I believe she spent around 3 weeks in LOROS as her condition gradually deteriorated. She was able to leave for short spells as friends and her husband would take her out for a walk in a wheelchair. Having seen the care my mum received and also the reputation LOROS has, Debbs knew it was the best place and they made her comfortable when she was in so much pain. Debbs passed away earlier this year in March 2023."
“I’ve always been an advocate for charity fundraising, especially for LOROS, given its local significance here in Leicester. My mum and cousin both received incredible end of life care and support from LOROS, and that's inspired me even more to raise funds for this worthy cause."
"Over the years, I've participated in various physical fundraising events for LOROS. Being tall, the Tower Run initially appealed to me, and I felt my height gave me an advantage to reach the top quicker! I've also enjoyed the bike ride to Skegness and running the Leicester Half Marathon, which holds a special place as it's in my home city."
"After completing the Manchester Marathon, I feel confident about tackling the London Marathon for LOROS. I believe this is the ideal time to do it, while everyone can remember the lovely people my mum and cousin were, maximizing the support I can gather."
"My fundraising goal for the London Marathon is to surpass the minimum required amount of £1650. I aim to at least double the target and hopefully even more, to make a substantial impact on LOROS and continue the legacy of support."
"To anyone hesitant about the London Marathon, I'd say you don't need to be super fit initially. With consistent training over time, you can build up to completing the 26.2 miles!"
“As raw as the loss of my mum and my cousin still is, it would be fantastic to raise such a huge amount of money for LOROS by doing this, to help give back to a place that has given my family so much in the past 12 months.”
