Story
I will be running the Manchester Marathon on 14th April 2024 to raise funds and awareness for Rett Syndrome.
Rett Syndrome is a rare genetic neurological disorder which affects all body movement , causes loss of speech and also causes difficulty in eating normally which results in feeding tubes being required. It is a progressive syndrome which gradually worsens with age and is a life limiting condition.
My sister in law Sophie McRobb who is 10 years old was diagnosed with Rett Syndrome in 2021. This has a big impact on Sophie’s life and her immediate family who take amazing care of her on a daily basis. Sophie also suffers with epileptic seizures due to the condition. The family have also watched her lose the ability to communicate and purposefully use her hands.
Sophie is a big character in our lives who brings a smile to everyone’s face. She keeps us all on our toes and loves to watch her favourite movies. She is a courageous girl and nothing phases her despite all of her daily difficulties. She brings so much joy and happiness to us all as a family.
I am running the Manchester Marathon for Sophie and to try and raise funds for Reverse Rett who play an important and vital role in trying to find a cure for Rett Syndrome. Any donation you could kindly give would go a long way in trying to improve the lives of those with Rett Syndrome and hopefully find a cure.
Thanks so much John & Sophie x
