Story
Margaret had a strong social conscience and supported a number of charities. The charity Freedom from Torture was important to her because her own brother Arthur Banks was tortured and killed by the Gestapo during the Second World War. His bravery and refusal to give crucial information under the most inhumane treatment was recognised in the award of the George Cross, which Margaret and her father received on his behalf at Buckingham Palace after the war.
Freedom from Torture is the only UK-based human rights organisation dedicated to the treatment and rehabilitation of torture survivors.
Your support could help provide counselling, group therapy and ongoing support for survivors of torture. Your donation will help give someone hope and strength on their journey to recovery.
We’d love to keep in touch, if you would like to receive our email updates, please take a moment to sign up here: www.freedomfromtorture.org/signup
