Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
So a little about the challenge, this will take place in the Peak District and is 62 miles in 24 hours, thats the goal anyway.
Basically i thought i could wing this without any training, ive done Marathons before, ive been in the Forces, easy. Then i realised both of these things where 20 years and 10 years ago. After waking up at 0330 on a Sunday morning for my first training walk of 12 miles i realised this was going to be a bigger task than i thought. So every Sunday at 0330 my alarm goes off and i head to Carsington for my walks.
I have 3 people of whom mean the world to me and who have been supported by the The Haemophilia Society.
Firstly my Wife, Lauren. Having been diagnosed with Type 2 Von Willebrands disease at an early age. Von willebrand is a factor that helps blood cells stick together when you bleed. From day to day Lauren doesnt let this affect her but as friends and family know this has become more problematic lately with various hospital stays but Lauren takes this in her stride and lives her life to the full.
Secondly our son Max, when Max was born we where told the news that he also has inherited Type 2 Von Willebrands. We always knew we had a 50/50 chance of any of our children having the disease but this was never issue. After a week in hospital after he was born we where given the devastating news that he had a bleed on his brain due to a complication with Von Willebrands and child birth. He was taken to QMC and underwent surgery and has since made a full recovery. Lauren stayed with him throughout his stay and they have a special connection. Max is now thriving and is now the the 99th percentile. Both his brothers know about Mummys and Max "special blood" and take extra care.
Thirdly we have my uncle, David Hatton who died April 1998 who had Haemophilia and died after being given infected blood treatment at the age of 41. David was 2 years old when he was diagnosed. He leaves behind Rhiannon, James and Katie and also his Grandchildren. Life could of been so different but im sure he is looking down and how proud he is of them all.
So thats my justgiving page and the 3 very big reasons why i will be taking part in this challenge. We live in tough times at the moment so please give what you can so the Haemophilia Society can keep raising awarness for bleeding disorders.
