Story
Hello everyone! In September 2023 I will be taking on the challenge of a lifetime as I trek to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, alongside my friends from University of Birmingham, in order to raise money for the Meningitis Research Foundation.
Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania, and it is the highest mountain in Africa as it reaches up to 5,895 metres above sea level, which is even higher than the Everest base camp!!!! So, climbing up Kili will not be easy with a lack of oxygen and in 30-degree heat!!!!
Meningitis affects more than 2.5 million people each year and it can affect anyone at any time. When I was young, within a month of each other, both my brother and sister were diagnosed with meningitis. My sister was diagnosed with bacterial meningitis, at age 5, and my brother was diagnosed with viral meningitis, at age 2. So this gives me the extra motivation to go out and fundraise as much as I can!!! Thankfully they were treated, and all fully recovered now, but there are millions around the world who aren't as lucky as 1 in 10 people die as a result of meningitis.
The Meningitis Research Foundation is doing great work in their goal to achieve a meningitis free world by 2030. As a result of their work more people around the world are getting access to the help they need, and global awareness of meningitis has majorly increased
Throughout this year I will organising and taking part in many fundraising events, in order to reach my fundraising goal of £4,000!!! Any small donations would be much appreciated and can go a long way in the charities goal to eradicate meningitis by 2030!!
Thank you, Joe :)
