Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

We are fundraising for therapy for our daughter, Rosie. Rosie is 3 and loves Peppa Pig and bubbles. She has the cutest smile and giggle and the best pet lip! She has a twin sister, Emily, and a big sister, Evie. She is desperate to be able to do what they do and to join in their games. With the help of intensive therapies, she is slowly working towards her potential, she has recently figured out how to sit and to crawl and is making that dream a reality.

A little bit of a back story...

Rosie's birth was traumatic. She was deprived of oxygen for a long period of time whilst she was delivered and resuscitated, resulting in Hypoxic Ischemic Encephalopathy (HIE), basically, a lack of oxygen to the brain resulting in brain damage. Rosie required extensive resuscitation, CPR, Adrenaline and to be placed on a ventilator before being transferred to NICU after 36 minutes, ready to face the biggest fight for her life.

Rosie stayed in NICU for 5 weeks and 3 days. During this time she dealt with so much and we were told that she may not recover and she may not come home. She was on life support for 5 days, during which she began to have neonatal seizures and had to be started on anti-convulsant medication, a clear sign that she had indeed sustained a brain injury. An MRI was done to see what damage had been caused and this showed that the brain injury was extensive and covered all areas of her brain, meaning her prognosis was not promising. Whilst dealing with that devastating blow and being told that she would need intensive care for the rest of her life, that she may not ever move or laugh or smile, we were dealing with her stopping breathing regularly and getting life-threatening infections. All in all, the worst time of our lives, not knowing if we would even be taking her home.

Rosie came home being tube fed as she has no suck, swallow or gag reflex and it was obvious from the get-go that she was severely delayed compared to her twin.

She was diagnosed as having Cerebral Palsy at 7 months old which is quite young but as she was so severe, it was always obvious. The type of CP that she has affects all four limbs and makes it really difficult for her to achieve any of her milestones.

Recently, she scared me half to death again by having a prolonged seizure and subsequently, getting an epilepsy diagnosis.

The level of damage that Rosie has would be catastrophic for an adult. However, there is hope! Because of the plasticity of an infants brain, they can learn new ways to do things. Intensive therapies are the best thing that we can provide her with in order to reach her potential. However, these therapies are so expensive! We have spent the past 3 years finding ways of making it possible for her to access these therapies but they cost thousands, per week!

There are so many therapy types out there and amazing therapists who could help her reach her potential, but the access to the best therapists, cost the most money. Our most recent therapy was with some amazing therapists but the progress she made in 10 hours was mind blowing - from needing full trunk support to take a step to being able to step pushing a chair along and cruising by day 5! So, imagine what she can do if she access a few of these per year!

Whilst we continue to raise money for her therapy, we humbly come to our friends and family to ask for your help to give her the best life possible. We truly believe that she can achieve great things if she is given access to as much as we possibly can.
