In July last year I received a diagnosis of stage 4 bowel cancer. It has been such a challenging time for me, Will, my family and my friends, but I really want to achieve something positive now that we are well into treatment. By July 3rd (a year since the diagnosis) I’m hoping to have raised some money for Cancer Research UK. My target is £500 but I’m hoping I can raise a bit more than that!

To earn donations I’m aiming to walk a total distance of 200km across the months of May and June. It may not sound like a huge distance for two months, but chemotherapy and immunotherapy are hard, and there are days I may not make it out at all. I’ll be tracking my progress on Strava to make sure I meet my target and will be updating on Instagram and Facebook 😊 Hopefully some of you will join me on my walks and I can raise some money for a great cause.

*UPDATE 29/5/24*

As lots of you know I’m currently in Addenbrookes following very unpredictable pain which I just cannot manage without the amazing help of lots of doctors, nurses etc…. Everyone who has looked after me over the last week has been amazing. Unfortunately being stuck in hospital doesn’t do much for my ability to go for a walk.

Today I found out that the plan moving forwards is to operate on me asap and give me a stoma to manage my symptoms. Obviously surgery is a big deal and so I’m planning on taking one month (maybe two depending on recovery) off from my distance walking challenge and will resume it in July 🤞 I’m annoyed about this but absolutely determined to finish it. There’s no way I’m not making 200km and the sponsorship so far and support is so generous.

*UPDATE 4/8/24* I started the challenge again on August 1st! I’m managing so far but it is really hard. I’m suffering with pain, water retention and fatigue but am still determined to get there! So far this month I’ve completed 13.9km in the first four days. Just 93.1km to go!
