Story
If you know me chances are you also know, or have at least heard of, my best friend Gillian. We’ve been friends since the age of six and have been through all stages of life together so far: school, crazy holidays, weddings and babies. She has been there for me through thick and thin at times picking me up at my lowest points.
Over the past year I’ve watched Gillian go through the toughest stage of her life, being diagnosed and treated for breast cancer. It’s been brutal and traumatic for her and her loved ones. Gillian has faced this with amazing courage and strength. I am so incredibly proud of her and grateful for the phenomenal support she has had throughout from the Beatson Cancer Centre in Glasgow.
If you, like Gillian, knew me when I was younger you’ll also know that I avoided any sport or exercise like the plague. But in a surprising twist for everyone, including me, I’ve found a passion for running as I’ve got older.
So I’ve decided to put this to some use and raise money for the Beatson, as a thank you for all they have done for Gillian and many many others in Scotland facing cancer.
I’m running the Highland Fling Race, a 53 mile ultramarathon on the West Highland Way, from Milngavie to Tyndrum on the 27th April. It’s a huge distance for me but nothing is as scary as the challenge Gillian has faced this past year. I will run for her and for the Beatson. Please support us if you can.
