Story
We're delighted to announce that we have been selected to race in this year's Goodwood Markel Magnolia Cup in support of My Sisters' House.
12 Women Novice Jockeys.
12 Racehorses.
51/2 furlongs.
And this year, on 1 August 2024, we are going to be two of those women - 😬😱😳.
Joanna:
I've been training for this race since September - running, weights, watt bike, reformer Pilates, playing on my pretend horse Marmaduke. Jockeys are super fit athletes and in order to ride to a fraction of their standard safely the magnolia jockeys have to all pass a really tough fitness assessment. Then there’s the riding. I've ridden all my life but not skinny minny super fast horses in a tiny saddle! This has been a tough but exhilarating transition and I'm not there quite yet.
Amy:
This is one of the hardest challenges I think I have ever undertaken (including starting a business!), not only is it physical but mentally challenging to keep your head when you are going over 40mph perched on top of an athlete of an animal. For me it's about empowering women and showcasing women in sport, business and everyday life that we can break through boundaries and do incredible things no matter what background or demographic you come from.
We're doing all of this to raise as much money as possible for My Sisters’ House, the charity we are all supporting this year. They help women in need - a safe haven for their welfare and well-being, helping women who are victims of domestic abuse thrive not just survive.
We’re putting ourselves out there not just for a challenge, but to try and prevent the challenges these women face, so we would be so grateful if you could show us and this wonderful charity your support through sponsoring us!
