Story
I am going to attempt to complete the Cuillin ridge traverse, and would like to do this as a fundraiser for Mind Over Mountains. The Cuillin ridge on the Isle of Skye is renowned for its severity and scale, coined as the 'holy grail' in British Scrambling as a 12km alpine-like route and unlike anything else in the UK. The route takes in 22 summits (with 11 munros), and involved sustained, remove and serious scrambling with significant exposure throughout. This will be a huge challenge for me, far beyond my usual comfort level in the hills and one that that will push me mentally and physically over the 2 plus days the attempt will take, with overnight bivvies en route. I will supported in this attempt by my brother in over the next few days, starting 31st August and would love to combine this special experience in the hills with the opportunity to fundraise for a charity whose work means a lot to me personally and professionally.
Mind Over Mountains is a ground-breaking charity helping people overcome mental health challenges through therapeutic outdoor experiences. Their specialist wellbeing walks and retreats bring together professionally guided hill-walking, mindfulness, and quality time with experienced coaches and counsellors.
£30 could fund a set of coaching cards for use on a retreat
£60 could fund a follow-on coaching or counselling session for an individual participant.
£90 could fund the full cost of a bursary place on a wellbeing walks
Mental health and wellbeing is something that at times can seem like 'the holy grail' for so many people experiencing difficulties in their life. I am proud to work for Mind Over Mountains as a mountain leader, and recognise that, just like my Cuillin ridge attempt, achieving 'success' in mental health can depend upon a combination of factors - having the right people and conditions around you, bravery and perseverance when facing difficult situations, and the right support to break down challenges into achievable goals. Mind Over Mountains provides such opportunities which can be the catalyst to help people to make positive changes in their lives.
I would be so glad if you could give generously to support their work.
