Myself, Dawn, Katie, Shelley & John Thomas.
We are raising money for Kidney Wales and participating in the 10k race on September 1st, because this charity is close to our hearts. We are driven to make a difference. Dawn donated a kidney to her son Ellis, and Sarah donated her kidney to her father Robin. In addition, we have three close friends who suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD), Jo Wilson, Jo Mcandrew and Jo Kendall, Jo Kendall Mum passed away from this condition coming up Three years ago.
By taking part in this race, we aim to honor these personal connections and raise much needed awareness and funds for Kidney Wales.
There are 93,722 of the Welsh population diagnosed with Kidney Disease. 3,297 of these with Chronic Kidney Disease on renal replacement therapy which includes dialysis, transplant or palliative care. Chronic Kidney Disease is a life long, life threatening condition, there are multiple treatments but unfortunately no cure.
Kidney Wales helps patients and their families by
- providing information, advice and assistance via our patient information and support manager
- provide emergency financial aid
- deliver education and awareness raising activity
- work with partners to invest in targeted care for patients physical and mental wellbeing
- Fund research that benefit Welsh kidney patients
Kidney Wales does not receive any government funding, we rely on the generosity of you to continue our life changing work. Every penny raised will make a huge difference supporting patients and families living with kidney disease in Wales.
