Story
This April I will be taking on the iconic London Marathon in aid of Meningitis Now!
Having reached 20 years post Meningitis, I still feel so so lucky to be alive, and to be able to even consider taking part in the London Marathon is a gift and an opportunity to give something back which I could not turn down!
This is very much an exciting challenge for me. Although I do consider myself a runner, having been a member of my local running club for 9 plus years now, my longest run remains at the half marathon distance so there will be lots of training, support and motivation happening over the next 12 weeks.
At the age of 17, I was rushed to the ITU, thanks to knowledge of 'the glass test' and the most vigilant parents I could ever wish for. Being hospitalised and diagnosed with meningococcal septicaemia, was an incredibly scary experience and not least for my family and friends. It has taken me many years to be able to acknowledge let alone speak about my experience without getting upset and I do realise how very lucky I have been to survive with minimal lasting effects. This disease is life-threatening, it acts fast and is unforgiving, so please please help me to raise as much as we can to support Meningitis Now, every penny counts and your support is greatly appreciated! ❤️ 🙏
