Story
I am a MASIC Advocate fundraising to support women affected by severe childbirth injuries like OASI for the charity masic.org.uk
I suffered an OASI during the traumatic birth of my son. Being unable to maintain control of your bowel function and living with incontinence is extremely challenging both physically and mentally. After decades of extensive interventions and surgeries I had exhausted the list of treatments to help manage my condition. The only option that remained was to have stoma surgery. Three years ago, I chose to have a colostomy.
MASIC exists to support women, challenge stigma and drive change.
The MASIC Foundation is the only multi-disciplinary UK charity to support women who have suffered severe injuries during childbirth known as OASI (Obstetric Anal Sphincter Injuries).
The charity is run by injured women and healthcare professionals who are committed to better detection and prevention of injury during childbirth.
