Story

Bucket List Race for Beating Child Abuse

The London Marathon is on many a runner’s bucket list but this one will be mean so much more to me as I’ll be running it with my bestie running bud Jo K, aka the other half of the “2 Jo’s”. After many years of failed ballot entries, I decided to apply for a charity place and was thrilled to be awarded one by the NSPCC.

The NSPCC is the leading children's charity fighting to end child abuse in the UK and Channel Islands, helping children who have been abused to rebuild their lives, protect those at risk, and find the best ways of preventing abuse from ever happening.

Perhaps the vast majority of people reading this will thankfully not have been affected by child abuse in their lives, but I’m sure you will agree that this is a vitally important charity to help the unfortunate children who are affected, with the NSPCC fighting for every childhood.

Please give as generously as you can to support this cause, but any amount, whatever it may be, is gratefully received. Every step I run over the 26.2 miles around London on 21st April 2024 will be in support of the amazing work the NSPCC does to help give each child the best possible chance to rebuild their lives after abuse.

Although I've run a marathon and an ultra marathon in recent years, the London Marathon truly is a dream bucket list race for me, and at 50 years old, I'm committing to the 5 month training plan despite being probably the most run unfit I've been in years! The training plan is now underway and I’m determined to build my strength and endurance up so I can confidently tackle those 26.2 miles April 2024 and raise as much money for NSPCC as I can!
