We're raising funds for Mind in Croydon's Make your Move campaign.
They are aiming to raise £66,852 (£1 for every person in Croydon experiencing poor mental health) by World Mental Health day on 10th October. You can get involved and do your own sponsored activity here: https://www.mindincroydon.org.uk/how-we-can-help/connecting-with-people/active-minds/make-your-move/
My grandma, Eileen Darville, worked as an NHS mental health nurse in Croydon her whole career, as did my wonderful granddad Jack, who sadly passed away earlier this year. He was an avid runner in his heyday and would've been over the moon with his beloved wife bringing home a medal for such a good cause. They were there, clapping and jingling their bells for the key-workers so proudly during lockdown. She turns 96 years young in September and wants to do herself proud, make a difference and raise vital funds.
When I asked if she'd like to get involved and do a wheelchair race, she laughed "Oh no, I'll run a four minute mile instead! I want to help the poor people."
Because I can't keep up with her, we'll be doing a slightly slower wheelchair 5k race together instead in Battersea on 25th September. She's excited to do her bit and will be waving the flag for Mind in Croydon, with a collection bucket in case anyone has any spare change they can share.
Please show your support and donate anything you can, every penny counts. You will make her a very happy woman!
Any calls of "Come on Eileen!" Very much appreciated. :)
Let's show her how much we appreciate how absolutely awesome she is!
