I work within the HGV industry and they play a huge part in our lives from one day to the next, delivering food, medical supplies, cars, resources.. you name it, it probably comes on a wagon.

My employer, MAN Truck & Bus UK, had given the opportunity to sponsor a number of people within the business to take part in this unbelievable event - I was selected as 1 of 3 of us within MAN. I am the only one from the North East within the company. I will be proudly representing the Stockton branch.

In October 2024, I am cycling 474km across 6 days through Kenya. I will be travelling from Nyeri which is at the base of Mount Kenya to Lake Victoria. Despite being able to experience such a beautiful, panoramic environment, I will be up against extreme heats, tough ground and other challenges but it will be worth it.

Transaid as an organisation supports drivers, governments, and training institutions to improve road safety. In the UK, we have a high standard for road safety. It isn't the same everywhere you go.

In sub-Saharan Africa, road deaths are the third biggest killer following HIV/AIDS and Malaria. Drivers are at risk every time they sit behind the wheel due to a lack of legal enforcement and training, and badly maintained and overloaded vehicles.

The work of Transaid includes the use of Emergency Transport Schemes to transport pregnant mothers with complications, and children with severe malaria. Transaid also help community health workers reach the families who need them most.

I've chosen to support this fantastic cause, because we in the UK are lucky enough to not have these daily challenges, as we have access to appropriate training, services and support. I don't want to take each day for granted and am thankful for the opportunities given to me. I appreciate any donations, shares and support along the way. I know it isn't going to be the easiest thing I've done but anybody that knows me, knows I'm up for a challenge, so let's go champ 🚲🥊
