Jim Peters and Brenna & Matt Hall have joined together to raise funds to support the work of GateWay Second Chance Foundation. Alfred LaGarde, Executive Director of the organization, is a friend and former business partner. He asked me to support this year's fundraiser, Too Fit to Quit, either by donating or creating a team to support it, I (Jim) immediately responded yes.

Gateway Second Chance Foundation creates educational programs to help address the needs of minority male students. Their stated mission is "to break the cycle of failure among academically struggling male adolescents. We provide individualized academic support, pre-apprentice training and life skills, giving each student a chance to succeed in middle school, high school and beyond." Their long-term goal is to provide our quality educational, cultural and recreational programs in a residential setting.

Since Al has stepped up his involvement in the organization as Executive Director, I thought I should do a bit more than just donate as I have in the past, but to create a team. My daughter Brenna immediately said yes for both her and Matt to join the team. The focus of our team, West Coast Riders, is cycling.

This was Al's challenge: From Saturday the 7th of September through Saturday the 5th of October 2024, we are challenging you to join us as we collectively cycle/run/skate/walk/exercise as many miles or hours as possible. My own goal is to cycle 500 miles during the period, 100-150 miles more than normal.
