Story
I am terrified to announce an impending sky dive on Sept 29! BUT I am really proud to announce that I am doing it for a remarkable charity called Love4Life!
Just because people are cognitively different or have a disability, it doesn't mean they don't want the same things out of life as the rest of us. Meeting friends for a meal out, flirting with someone you fancy or doing some sport are the things that many of us take for granted. For our members these bread and butter activities are often unattainable. Once they reach 18, the support that people with disabilities may have had, can suddenly evaporate - poof!...leaving them isolated, lonely and often vulnerable. Opportunities to kick back and relax with mates are non existent. Romantic and sexual relationships? Forget it! Even healthcare for our members can be a minefield. That's where Love4Life steps in.
Love4Life is a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change for autistic adults and people with learning disabilities. At Love4Life we believe that everyone deserves love, friendship, and meaningful connections. Throughout Hampshire, Southampton, Coventry, and London we host a variety of social events and member led workshops for our 200+ members, catering to everyone's diverse interests and needs.
From the joy of clubbing with mates and the excitement of attending their first ever festival to the creativity of drama and the thrill of sports, and not least the wonderful feeling of butterflies when we like someone. Love4life events enable our members to experience all of these AND stick two fingers up at loneliness, at the same time. Instead love4life empowers members to connect with peers, develop relationships and feel an important part of an active community. Love4Life is there for people who fancy each other too - with the opportunity to go on chaperoned dates, members can safely explore the all highs and lows of romantic relationships. We also educate members to watch out for things like mate crime or just being taken advantage of (in whatever form that takes).
As a fully fundraised charity, Love4Life relies entirely on donations to keep it going. Your generosity will directly impact our ability to create and sustain these fantastic social opportunities. Without support, the scope of our work becomes limited, and many individuals may miss out on the chance to experience the love and companionship they deserve.
So this skydiving challenge is more than just an adrenaline rush for me; it's a leap of faith towards a brighter future for countless individuals
Every contribution, no matter the size, makes a significant difference. Please consider supporting my skydiving fundraiser and, in turn, supporting Love4Life. Together, we can help more people find the love and happiness they are entitled to.
