Story
In 2018, what we initially thought were mere chest infections, pneumonia, or asthma turned out to be a diagnosis of Interstitial Lung Disease (ILD) stemming from a rare auto-immune condition. Throughout the diagnostic journey, the medical community consistently overlooked the condition due to its atypical presentation in someone in their mid-30s. With over 150 types of ILD, each triggered by diverse factors, it's a disease I never even knew existed until it directly affected me.
ILD leaves its mark on lung tissue and compromises the alveoli, essential for oxygen transfer from lungs to blood, vital for sustaining life. Given the progressive nature of ILDs, research is paramount to finding ways to slow or halt their advancement. Unfortunately, there's a lack of research into medications that could extend the lives and improve the quality of life for those with ILD.
To raise awareness and support lung disease research, my wife, a group of close friends, and I are fundraising for Breathing Matters, a charity dedicated to researching all forms of lung diseases, including ILD. Our collective hope is that one day, receiving a lung disease diagnosis won't shatter lives as it does now.
Once an avid runner, it's disheartening that my body struggles to keep pace now. Despite this, I'm determined to tackle the Manchester 10k. I'm grateful to my wife and supportive friends for joining me in this endeavor, hoping to rediscover the joy of participating in a running event.
If you're able, please consider contributing to this noble cause or simply sharing the page. This will be providing us with the motivation to unite and effect positive change together for all ILD patients.
