Story
Approximately 850,000 people are affected by dementia in the UK, with the numbers projected to rise to over 1 million by 2025.
The Alzheimer’s Society is the only UK based charity investing into research into dementia care, cause and prevention. This year 225,000 people will be diagnosed with dementia, that is 1 person every 3 minutes. It is also not a disease that is exclusive to older people with 40,000 people under 65 being affected.
There is currently no cure available for Alzheimer’s or any type of dementia, and it is an increasing problem, especially with current life expectancy increasing. Research is desperately underfunded. For every person living with dementia, the annual cost to the UK economy is £30,000 and yet only £90 per person is spent on dementia research each year.
My aim is to raise at least £1000 and all of this money will go directly to The Alzheimer’s Society. Your donations will help spur me on in my training and motivate me when the ride gets tough, which I am sure it will!
Every little bit counts, be it £1 or £100, so please give what you can, and help me raise money for people who are committed to improving care for people today and finding a cure for people tomorrow.
