Story
In June 2025, we will be arriving in the Peruvian Amazon to complete the Beyond The Ultimate, Jungle Ultra Marathon. Set in the Manu National Park deep within the rainforest, it will soon become very evident to us why this remains such an untouched and impenetrable region! Set over five stages in five days, this is undoubtedly one of the toughest races in the world.
With every gruelling step, we are aiming to raise vital funds & awareness for Walkoncemore (WOM), a charity which supports cutting-edge research into a near-term cure for chronic spinal cord injury (SCI). Having completed the Marathon des Sables in the Sahara desert for Walkoncemore in 2022, this won't be the first time we've put ourselves to the test in aid of a good cause...but something tells us this Ultra is one that will test us even further!
We will be journeying from cloud forest to Amazon basin as we fight our way through the inhospitable undergrowth, mud, humidity and 30°C daytime temperatures...all while carrying our entire kit & vital equipment on our backs. There will be many a river crossing to negotiate along the way too - safe to say we will need to become fairly good friends with the damp! This self-sufficient Ultra itself provides untold unique and daunting challenges, made even more trying still by the fact that the thin air doubles the effort required to move. Every limitation of our physical and mental resilience will be tested, but we are under no illusion that this still does not compare to how tough daily life is for the millions of people affected by SCI around the World. It is a truly devastating condition, with 250,000 to 500,000 new cases reported annually - something which could afflict any one of us, at any time. Luckily, a cure is achievable, and WOM are resolute in doing all they can to ensure this becomes a reality as soon as possible.
WE WOULD THEREFORE BE SO GRATEFUL FOR ANY AND ALL DONATIONS!
Every £ you can spare will help us towards our fundraising target, not to mention propel us through every root-stacked jaguar-dodging leg of the course!
THANK YOU SO MUCH IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR KIND SUPPORT, GUYS 🌞
