Please help me fundraise for The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust - a charity close to my heart.
In 2020, in the height of covid lockdown, and after a period of infertility, I was cautiously excited about being nearly 8 weeks pregnant when I started to get severe and strange stomach pain. It didn’t feel the same as a previous miscarriage so I was desperately (and naively) hoping it wasn’t anything to do with the baby. I was booked in for a scan the next morning to check for an ectopic pregnancy… at that point, I had to Google what it was!
Unfortunately I became very unwell overnight and was rushed to hospital by ambulance. A scan revealed I had a ruptured ovarian ectopic pregnancy, causing significant internal bleeding.
At that point, the heartbreak of losing the baby was overcome by the fear for my own life. The doctors and nurses were incredible but I could tell they were concerned, and I was immediately prepped for emergency surgery.
The recovery was hard. I had undergone major abdominal surgery and lost a lot of blood, it took me many months to feel physically normal. The emotional side was even harder; processing the trauma of the experience, as well as being back to dealing with baby loss and infertility. It’s during this time I found the ectopic pregnancy trust - it helped me feel less alone and more informed about recovery.
We are now blessed with our 2 beautiful children, but it was a journey! I’d love to raise money to support others through their journeys and most importantly, raise awareness - the first time a family hears about an ectopic pregnancy shouldn’t be in the fear and pain of a terrifying hospital room.
Ectopic pregnancy is a common, life-threatening condition that is the leading cause of first trimester deaths. The condition affects around 1 in 80 pregnancies in the UK and occurs when an embryo grows outside of the womb.
