Story
The Azara summer programme will be the first ever coed yeshiva programme in Europe's 2,000 year Jewish history. For one month, participants of all backgrounds will come together to immerse in Jewish texts and form a community of learners. I'm asking for your support to make it happen.
I first got involved in Open Talmud Project (Azara's roots) as a participant in 2018, and it changed my life. Studying Talmud 'on the daf' (in the original) and being able to make meaning out of it was one of the best experiences I'd ever had, and was a huge part in why I went abroad to yeshiva and ended up on the path to becoming a rabbi. At the same time, I wish I could have had that yeshiva experience without moving continents. I wish there had been something like Azara offering deep learning, in this country, in an inquiring and open spirit.
I believe that Torah learning is transformative. By engaging with deep, nuanced Jewish texts and each other, we ourselves change. Azara isn't just about intellectual experience. It's about building the sort of community that we want the UK to have - vibrant, open, and with deep Jewish roots.
The campaign will fund compensation for teachers and subsidies to make the programme financially accessible for participants.
