I am raising money by completing a litter picking weekend on the 9th and 10th of November. I am doing this in two locations, on the Saturday 9th of November I will be litter picking along the Llangollen canal with my family and on Sunday the 10th of November I will be litter picking in Kelsall with my friend MaryLou Payne.

I am doing this to remember my amazing Grandma Jane Critchley who passed away in March 2023 from sporadic Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (sCJD).

Jane Critchley- My Grandma dedicated her life to helping others and worked in community development in both Wrexham and Warrington. She also started a credit union scheme which is still helping people to this day. She was a County Councillor for Trevor and volunteered as a leader of the Llangollen youth club for many years. Grandma is missed everyday by her family and friends. Hearing stories of all that my Grandma has done for so many people, has inspired me to help the community she lived in and the community I live in. This is why I am doing a litter pick in those two areas.

Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) is a rare and fatal neurodegenerative disorder that affects the brain and nervous system. CJD had such a negative effect on our family and took away my Grandma far too early in her life, but I would wish to remember the good that my Grandma has done and create some positive actions from this.

I am raising money for the CJD network that helps people suffering with CJD and supports them and there family. This network helped me and my family whilst my Grandma was unwell and so I would like to help other people who have been touched by CJD.

The CJD Support Network is the only UK charity providing emotional and practical support for all forms of CJD & prion disease and for those who are at greater risk. The network is run by donations alone and does not have any other form of funding so every penny counts.

Thank you all so much for your support and sponsorship, we had a great weekend with lots on memory building and speaking about Grandma.

On Saturday I litter picked with 7 members of my family, my baby cousin and Meg my aunties dog. We litter picked from my Grandma and Grandads house down the main road in Trevor, along the disused railway then along the canal footpath to Llangollen. We walked for 4.4 miles and collected in total 7 big bags of rubbish which we took to the skip on Sunday.

We were hoping for a mild weekend but Sunday it rained just as we started, but this didn't stop us! Sunday I we litter picked with my friend MaryLou and her family. We started and ended at Kelsall green, litter picking for 2.5 hours. We were met on our pick by my other friend for a litter while Erin, it was fun!

In total we litter picked for 5.5 hours, walked 7.5 miles but most importantly collected a total of 11 full bags of rubbish, Grandma will be so proud of all that took part, sponsored and supported us along the way. I have added some pictures of us over the weekend. Thank you again to all for nearly doubling our target and raising so much money for the CJD Network.
