Story
Hi, my story; My Name is Jeremy,
Sadly a few years ago my brother took his own life and this along with close proximity of the death of both of my parents and a few other rough life events has had a big effect on my mental wellbeing.
I am very fortunate to have a fantastic wife and daughter who have supported me massively during this time, and I will be eternally grateful to them.
Within my working day I am both privileged and proud to work for Surrey Fire and Rescue Service alongside the support teams, training services, operational teams to the SLT, an amazing group of people that all come together to create an organisation where lives are put on the line daily to protect and save ours.
During my time working within this organisation I have made many good friends who have helped and provided me with support to try and get some focus on the issues that have come my way, and I will always be thankful to them.
There is a charity within the service set up to support employees of the Fire Service nationwide, called The Firefighters Charity. They provide a wide range of physical, mental, educational and general well-being health services to help and aid its people maintain their lives and in turn stay fit, well and safe and to carry on the amazing work they do.
I have been very fortunate to have been given access to The Firefighters Charity and its services, and the help and support they have given me has been second to none.
With this in mind I wanted to do something to raise some money, and give something back to the charity so as they can continue to do the amazing work they do and keep its people safe.
April 13th 2024 would have been my brother's birthday, so it only seemed fitting that I chose this day to mark his passing and to raise some money for the charity.
On this day myself and some amazing firefighters from Surrey Fire and Rescue Service are going to walk from London to Brighton in full fire kit and under air (wearing Breathing Apparatus).
I have set up this just giving page so as to try and personally raise as much money as I can for the Firefighters Charity and to help to keep them doing the amazing work they do in keeping Firefighters nationwide safe and well and in turn the public.
I am quite keen on my beer and food, this along with my recent surgery and the fact that I am not an operational firefighter will make this one of my biggest life challenges, but you have my word I will smash it out of the park.
I know times are hard and money can be a bit tight but I would ask if there is anything you can donate at all to help me reach my target I will be so thankful, anything will make a difference.
I will update the route and timings in due course and if you are free on the day to join us along the way or the cheer us on at the finish we would all love a wave and a cheer.
I would like to thank you all in advance for supporting this event and in turn support The Firefighters Charity and to help them continue to do the amazing work they do.
