Story
We are cycling more than 300km in 24hrs from London to Paris on May 17th-18th. To put that in context - prior to this we have never done more than 40km in one go - we are now doing this 8x and in 24h - all this to raise money for an amazing charity, Duchenne UK.
Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys.
Started 12 years ago by two mothers who each had a son affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK. As they say it themselves, "We know what patients need because we are patients ourselves". Their aim is to get funding to accelerate research and bring treatments to patients AND also work to change the landscape of drug development. They connect the best researchers with industry, the NHS, and families to bring treatments to patients as quickly and effectively as possible. This year's Dash has a particular focus to raise funds for new medical trials on drugs to stem the devastating impact on the heart, which slowly kills many young boys.
We are parents ourselves, and have been particularly touched by the purpose and impact of this charity. Emily, one of the two founders, is part of our local community, and we really want to help her and her team continue to change the lives of many patients.
Your support will mean a lot to us and will help us get through what promises to be a hard physical challenge, but of course this is nothing compared to what kids living with DMD have to live through everyday.
Thank you so much for your support for this amazing cause! Any donation of any amount would be greatly appreciated.
