Fundraising for The Brain Tumour Charity
This year I am joining a sponsored walk arranged by two of my friends, who are also living with brain tumours. They joined me last year at my Twightlight sponsored walk at the Tamar lake to raise awareness and funds for the Brain Tumour Charity. I raised over £1,000.
I have an Anaplastic Astrocytoma grade 3 that was diagnosed in 2021 where I had an emergency operation to save my life, followed by further 2 surgeries to remove as much of the tumour as possible and a regrowth on the 3rd operation. I had 30 days of radiotherapy and two types of chemotherapy. This has successfully stabilised the tumour and there's been no regrowth since 2022.
My life was turned upside down after finding out I had a brain tumour and I had to lose my podiatry private practice that I had run for 22 years, lost my driving licence and my independence. Thankfully I'm well physically, apart from extreme fatigue if I don't rest enough, and due to the location of the tumour and treatments I am very forgetful and get confused easily. I had a few seizures but they are now under control with medication.
I love walking so I'm looking forward to joining Ellen and Diane on their sponsored walk this year at the Eden project with my husband Mark. We will hope to raise awareness of brain tumours as well as raise funds for the Brain tumour charity.
