I'm Taking Part in the Nightingale Centre's Mammary Walk

Fundraising for Prevent Breast Cancer
£1,291
raised of £200 target
Event: The Nightingale Centre’s Mammary Walk, on 7 September 2024
Lisa Thomas has challenged her colleagues to take on a 'Mammary Walk'. 50 inflatable boobs will descend the streets of Manchester to raise funds for the National Breast Imaging Academy, getting more women to their mammograms, sooner.

Story

This is very personal to me as I was diagnosed with breast cancer in August 2023 so have a particular interest in helping to raise funds. I’ve benefitted greatly from all sorts of imaging equipment and the amazing staff trained to use them, and I’m now on the road to recovery. Looking forward to all the double takes as we trek through Manchester - dressed as threpenny bits!

There are severe workforce shortages within breast imaging in the UK. On top of this, an estimated 12,000 people could be living with undiagnosed breast cancer due to 1.5 million fewer breast screening appointments being carried out during the pandemic.

Our appeal for a new National Breast Imaging Academy would enable up to 13,000 extra patients to be seen at The Nightingale Centre each year, as well as further dedicated space for research into breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This would greatly enhance the breast service and save a great many lives.

Get behind Prevent Breast Cancer and staff at The Nightingale Centre and help us build the National Breast Imagine Academy, using science to save lives.
