Getting Farrah Up Snowdon, 24 August 2024
We raise funds to make a difference to the people and patients of EEAST

Story

Hey- thanks for visiting.

We are raising money for the East of England Ambulance service because often overlooked are the amazing, talented staff and life-saving work the paramedics, call handlers do on a daily basis! They are there 24/7 to help and deserve recognition, praise and funding to continue their outstanding work!

I will be hiking Snowdon with my friend Farrah and her partner. It will be our job to support Farrah up and down the mountain with as much motivation as possible. Here is Farrah's storey:

On September 19th 2023 Farrah was climbing, bouldering, where she fell around 20ft and broke my elbow. Not realising that the elbow was broken, because Farrah is a badass, she carried on climbing. Doing the same climb again, on the final hold, Farrah fell completely onto her ankle and for lack of a better word- buggered it.

Having multiple breaks and dislocations to her right ankle and had emergency surgery on the 20th September where multiple pins and screws were placed in the ankle.

Unfortunately- due to significance of the injury, Farrah has been told it’s a limb/life changing injury with nearly 100% chance of Avascular Necrosis and Osteoarthritis with around 60% of the Talus head completely destroyed leaving a large gap in my ankle where bone has now gone.

The consultant has told Farrah that she wouldn’t climb again and doing a mountain would be ‘very uncomfortable’.

But, Farrah won’t give up without a fight!! So, we, Farrah's partner and myself, have taken Farrah climbing since - with ropes for safety. Also, Farrah has been on some smaller hikes and now a couple of larger ones - however pain has been challenging.

Why do Snowdon?? Farrah LOVES mountains and wants to continue doing what she loves. Climbing and hiking is where Farrah's joy and happiness is. In her own words 'I am not ready to give this up- so I won’t!'

On the Bank Holiday weekend in August we will be climbing Mt Snowdon with a team (unsure on how many people will be joining me) to reach the summit and get back down (no train for Farrah)! Any support would be appreciated!

Why East of England Ambulance Service?

When Farrah had her injury, she was obviously in a lot of pain and extremely scared, the paramedics that came out to me were amazing! They were calming, supportive and extremely professional. They managed to realign her foot (as was in a proper gross position) and make her feel safe and comfortable (as much as possible anyway). We know they are very under appreciated and the service is under extreme pressures and stress with the NHS cuts and demands and we would love to give back to those who supported me so wonderfully.
