Story
I am running for HeartUK In memory of Spencer Hillman, the story below is written by his sister, my dear friend Lucy.
Spencer was only 40 years old when he suddenly and unexpectedly died in the early hours of Tuesday 21st February 2023. He left Krissy his wife who was 36 weeks pregnant with their third baby girl Hollie Spencer, and his daughters Lexie (6), Imogen (3).
He had a very close and special relationship with Mum and Dad - Jill and Brian , with me Lucy andour sister Sophie, we all admired and loved him dearly.
Spencer had a heart condition that he was unaware of. A condition that can cause sudden cardiac death in young, fit and healthy people known as Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM). HCM increases the risk of a sudden cardiac arrhythmia (abnormal heart rhythm) and can then lead to a cardiac arrest which is what tragically happened to Spencer.
HCM is a condition with affects 1 in 500, often has no symptoms and sometimes the first symptom can be a cardiac arrest. It is one of the leading causes of sudden death in young, fit people aged under 40. He had no known health conditions and had no symptoms.
Please donate in memory of our dear Spencer.
