Story

Our story is, I lost my dear mum at only 52 to lung cancer after only 9 months and although she didn’t make in into the Rowans, my father in-law did.

During his time in there, we got to see and witness the amazing care they give the patients and the incredible support to families and friends. Steve only went in for some respite, little did we know that he wouldn’t be coming back home and lost his battle to a brain tumour after 5 1/2 years, but we can all say how incredibly fortunate we were to have a place like this for him and us during that time, I just wish my mum and family had had that too.

This year, we have lost another family member who was battling pancreatic cancer, it was a pretty rough ride for my uncle in-law but at the Rowans it was different, the care for him, the support for the family just made such a difference in an already hard time, Philip did make it home where he lost his battle.

There really isn’t any words to truly describe all the people who work at the Rowans and what they give but they are like angels, and the place is like no other place for people who are in for rest-bite or maybe end of life care, and as hard as these moments in time are for everyone, there is a feeling or calm, peace and so much love.

Myself and my family cannot thank the Rowans enough for all they have done, and it’s the least we can do the help raise money to help keep this place going, because one day it could be me, you, a friend or a loved one who might need this, and we want this to be there for them - for us.

Rowans Hospice provide palliative care to the highest quality for those living with a life-limiting illness in South East Hampshire. Our hospice carers help improve quality of life for the patient by easing physical symptoms and offering psychological, spiritual and social support to both patients and their loved ones. Hospice care is available round the clock. We receive a very small level of statutory support from the Government, however, almost all of the money needed to provide our services has to be raised through donations and fundraising
