Story
New Year, new challenges! In 2024, I’m going to be cycling / swimming / running (whatever I can, whenever I can) for the charity Nerve Tumours UK.
On the list so far:
* Crystal Palace / RunThrough 5k ( 28th January / completed)
* Ride London 100 (26th May / completed)
* The London 10k (14th July / completed)
* Swim Serpentine 2 mile swim (14th September / completed)
* London to Brighton (15th September / completed)
* Vitality Westminster Mile (21st September / completed)
I'm looking to add to this list of challenges throughout the year - suggestions and running / cycling / swimming companions are warmly welcomed! I will be doing the two bike rides alongside my Dad, who is supporting The National Brain Appeal - https://www.justgiving.com/page/william-wyatt-1705250427698?fbclid=IwAR1jlm1fvZqqUveyrhxv6A1DLOoPFYsklb_vbBmmqJdglFTMfUn2Pq8fgZE
Why Nerve Tumours UK?
I was born with the genetic condition Neurofibromatosis Type 1 (NF1), which affects 1 in 2,500 people. It affects everyone who has it differently, meaning some people's symptoms can be more severe than others. Currently, there is no cure for NF1, NF2-related-Schwannomatosis, or Schwannomatosis (two closely related conditions, which fall under the NF umbrella), and so they are largely managed through regular check ups with specialists. This can include regular MRI scans and eye tests.
Nerve Tumours UK helps to fund a network of specialist support nurses, and also runs a helpline. The charity are always looking to expand their specialist support network of nurses, to ensure that there is someone to help and talk to in every region of the UK, as currently there are only 10 across the country, with demand for the services they provide expected to rise.
Given that they are a charity and 100% funded by donations, even a small amount can make a difference to their work. As little as £10 can provide a school with a pack that can help their staff better understand the condition, and how it can affect the pupils who have it, which is a huge step in the right direction.
No pressure, but if you are able to make a donation (or even drop me a message of support!) then I will be very grateful.
Thank you
