Story
Myself and Suzie Farrell will be getting our running shoes on to run the Royal Parks Half Marathon on 8th October in support of Doing it For Dexter, a Duchenne UK family fund. Suzie has been a great support for me and has already run the Great South Run for Duchenne UK. Here's the reason why we will be putting ourselves through this challenge:
On the 1st June 2018, Dexter was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy .DMD is a devastating muscle-wasting disease. It is the most common and severe form of muscular dystrophy. Diagnosed in childhood, it mainly affects boys.
5 years on, Dexter is attending a super mainstream school; gained many friendships and always smiling. Unfortunately, Dexter has reached the age where his decline is upon him, and us. We are travelling in to an unknown area and begin to face extensive challenges and changes. With the support of our friends and families, we are still hopeful we can slow down, or prevent this downward spiral.
Because Dexter can't, I feel it is my role to use my body on behalf of him and fight for him to find a cure and more treatment- we may be the ones that see the decline, but he will be the one that will be going through it
Doing it for Dexter supports Duchenne UK, a charity that has one clear aim: to end Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD).
Started by families affected by the disease, Duchenne UK is the leading DMD charity in the UK: connecting the best researchers with industry, the NHS and families to advance and accelerate every stage of drug development.
