Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.

This fundraising page will be used by all runners that have signed up to Team Jen so as a team we all thank you so much for sponsoring us as individuals and as a team!

Hi my name is Jen and I work at Manchester Children’s Hospital for Teenage Cancer Trust. I am running the Manchester 10K in May 2024 to raise much needed money for all the teenagers that have a diagnosis of Cancer. As a Youth Support Coordinator I support young people from diagnosis through to completion of treatment and beyond. The teenagers I have had the pleasure in meeting are so strong and the resilience they show throughout treatment amazes me. As you can imagine some days are very difficult and these young people are very poorly but making them smile in their darkest hours can be very difficult but that is my job! I often say this is the nicest job in the world but can also be the hardest emotionally. Running with me will be some of the Nurses and Doctors from ward 86, 84 (daycase), School, Bone Marrow and Stem Cell, we have all also roped in a lot of our friends, family, and gym buddies. Some of the families off the wards are also running with us as they recognise the importance of having support whilst in hospital. And saving the best till last we will have a few young people running with us who have been through treatment and will be showing the world they can beat cancer and they will run!!

We are dedicated to improving the quality of life and chances of survival for young cancer patients aged 13-24. We fund and build specialist units in NHS hospitals and provide dedicated staff, bringing young people together so they can be treated by teenage cancer experts in the best place for them.
