I will be undertaking a particularly long solo cycle ride in May. The cycle ride is over 300 miles and it will take me from Anglesey to the Isle Of Wight... and you might be wondering why.. ?
...2 years ago I originally thought of the idea of how wonderful it would be to cycle this route, given the beauty of the countryside in both England and Wales, but then I thought why not raise money in the process for a charity.
My family and friends know that I volunteer for Cowes Sailability on the Isle of Wight.
"Cowes sailability is a registered charity, it offers sailing and recreational boating opportunities for adults and children with physical disabilities, learning difficulties and debilitating long term conditions"
I first became involved in volunterring with Cowes Sailability when I lived in East Cowes on the Isle of Wight, I have recently moved back to the mainland but still offer my support when I can. The Cowes sailability volunteers support the sailing trips either shore based or on the water during the spring & summer months. I will never forget the smiles on peoples faces as they set sail from Cowes Sailability in the beautiful drascombe Sailing boats on a sunny afternoon.
Cowes Sailability have supported me with my training in power boat & VHF radio communication. I became a volunteer crew member driving the safety patrol boat, an important role reassuring people there is help at hand if there are any difficulties when out sailing.
I feel this epic cycle ride is a fantastic way of raising funds and awareness for Sailability. I really hope you will support me and help me raise money for this very worthwhile charity.
Sailability is a national Charity and the reason why I am setting off from Anglesey...I have family who live there and there is a Sailability in Plas Newydd and they will be giving me a spectacular send off across the Menai Straits on one of their boats on the 13th of May! I will be pedalling on a static roller on board.
I will be cycling over a 6/7 day period alternating with a road and gravel bike depending on the terrain, some of the route will take me over many hills "bryn" and mountains "Myndd" with an elevation of 1,700 ft in one section. The plan is to cross the solent on the 20th May to reach Cowes Sailability, the means of the Solent crossing will be confirmed in a update nearer the time.
Just to add that I cycle for fitness but have not cycled this far before, so this will be an immense challenge for me especially at my ripe old age....
Some one word descriptions from my friends and family...
"Marvellous"
"Mad"
"Bonkers"
"Amazingly bonkers"
"Adventourous"
"Chafing"....
"Madness"
"Achievable".. I will keep this word as my Mantra...
My thanks so far go to Roger my PA, Cowes Sailability, Kathryn, SEAS Sailability Plas Newydd & the Giant store in Southampton.
I will be updating my progress on facebook , Instagram and Komoot.
Thank You, Jeanie
