Story

Documentary of my 50km race and reasons for it Recovery Documentary.

I'm thrilled to share that I completed the Chiltern 50, a 31-mile challenge and still with some aches and pains two weeks later I completed the Oxford Half Marathon, to raise money for the Oxford Hospital Charity. This journey is especially significant to me because it comes just 11 months after my last open-heart surgery (my fifth all together) where I spent 12 hours on the operating table. Since then, I've faced weeks where even breathing was a struggle, each breath reminding me of how fragile life can be, how crucial the support and care from my family and the incredible teams at the hospital were in getting me back on my feet. While in the hospital, there were days when the thought of getting out of bed seemed impossible (some days that thought won), let alone walking, and the physical effort required to do so was overwhelming. Even climbing a flight of stairs or jogging 30 yards left me gasping for air. But somehow, when the odds were stacked against me, I found a way to push on to the next goal or stage in recovery. Now, as I push myself through 31 miles while wearing an S-ICD, each step and mile conquered reminds me of those challenging times in recovery when it felt like every step forward was a victory.

Taking on these challenges was my way of showing what the mind and body can achieve, even in the face of adversity, we all have that little bit more to give even if we don’t believe it at the time, I want to prove to anyone going through similar times that you can win the small battles in recovery or any phase in life and have them stack up to then achieving what you may have thought impossible.

It's a way for me to give back and support a cause that is so close to my heart. The Oxford Hospital Charity played a vital role in my recovery, and now I want to do what I can to help others who might be going through similar experiences. Your support would mean the world to me, and every donation brings us one step closer to making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
