Story
Thank you so much for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and helping the team and upcoming trip for Op Zephyr 2024 which myself will be going on.
In 2022, with support from their amazing team team Op Zephyr 2022 was able to donate 18 emergency vehicles to The Gambia in west Africa. As well as other much needed equipment.
The vehicles were delivered by road, a journey of 4000 miles! This was no plain sailing though, crossing multiple borders, war torn countries, minefields and through some of the worlds poorest countries, they reached Gambia.
The Gambia has a population of nearly 2 million, but hardly any emergency services. The fire service consists of just 6 fire stations and appliances. That doubled in 2022 to 12 appliances, however more are still required ❤️
Many areas of The Gambia have no running water, so no hydrants which means tackling any fires are extremely difficult and dangerous, but also spread very quickly. More fire appliances means more water on scene, and more firefighters to stop the blaze.
They all saw for themselves how ill-equipped the firefighters were, going into fires with just the clothes on their back, and flip flops instead of fire boots.
But with your help, we can change this ❤️
The health service within The Gambia is just as bad. Very limited ambulances through each district means that many will not be able to reach medical help, with mortality rates some of the highest in the world. On average, there are only 5 midwives per 1000 people, and with no method of transporting them, many women die in childbirth. Our aim is to deliver more emergency vehicles, both fire and ambulances, plus vital lifesaving equipment to help the fire and health services. You can help for less than £1 per mile. No donation is too small, and everything help
