Story
I am running the London Marathon, April 2025 to support the wonderful Severn Hospice who have been a great support to myself and to my Husband over the last year.
Severn Hospice provides specialist care and emotional support for families in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin and Mid Wales living with an incurable illness. All their care is provided for free, but it is not without cost - they have to raise £2 for every £3 they spend.
18 months ago, my Husband Stephen was diagnosed with a very rare aggressive cancer called Goblet Cell Adenocarcinoma, affecting just 2 in a million people.
The emotional rollercoaster that came from being with a fit, active and very healthy husband who had so much to live for, to be told that he was stage 4, there was no cure, his illness was terminal and his time left was very short.
Stephen was given palliative care through chemotherapy to try to slow down the spread of the cancer, but unfortunately, he was too unwell to continue the treatment.
When the doctors gave us information about Severn Hospice, Stephen was frightened of the image that came with the thought of "End of Life care".
However, what we have experienced, was nothing like imagined.
We have both found the Severn Hospice to be a place of peace, compassion and hope for some at least. For us, it was about providing Stephen with physical and emotional support for the uncertain time ahead. They looked after Stephen when I was poorly and couldn’t take care of him.
We both wanted to give back to the hospice, so we have left a gift in our wills. However, I felt this was not helping right now, so here I am, asking you kind and generous people to raise money for the Severn Hospice through sponsoring me to run the London Marathon.
I started my Marathon journey when my Husband was in the final months of his life and witnessed first-hand, the fantastic work the doctors, nurses and the whole team do to deliver care to patients at the end of their lives.
I want to raise money to say thank you, but also to allow them to continue the great work that they do.
