Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In April 2025, I will be running the London Marathon, which will be a HUGE challenge for me as someone who does not run currently 😂

I will be running to raise funds for the National Brain Appeal, specifically their brain tumour research fund which has recently funded some incredible clinical trials for those with brain cancer. I will be fundraising in memory of my beautiful step mumma Ellie who we tragically lost to brain cancer on the 26th of May, just days before her 40th birthday.

In 2016, Ellie was diagnosed with her first brain tumour. After 2 surgeries, she received the all clear which was a huge relief for us all. However this was only the start of what became an 8 year battle.

In 2018, her tumour came back, and by 2019, it had become aggressively cancerous. Despite a poor prognosis, she underwent aggressive radiotherapy and chemotherapy, and in 2020 she finished her treatment and was cancer free! In all honesty, we got 5 bonus years with her.

Days before Christmas 2023, we got the devastating news that Els cancer had returned and was as aggressive as ever. She immediately started chemotherapy and we came together as our little family of 4 to enjoy what turned out to be our last Christmas together.

In January, Els condition began to deteriorate quickly, and on 26/5/24, our family faced our worst nightmare as we lost our beautiful El.

Ellie was very reserved so I feel so lucky to have known her in all her ways. She was such a kind soul and always knew what to say and how to make me feel better. On the last day that I spent with her awake, she was the one wiping my tears, which honestly sums her up!

In our last proper conversation together, I told her I had signed up for the London Marathon, and after staring blankly at me for 30 seconds she said (with a deadly serious face) “Why have you done that? You can’t run?” 😂 I could always rely on her for some brutal honesty.

This will be a huge challenge for me but nothing compared to what El has faced over the last few years. She fought with such bravery and so I’m hoping she can get me through the next few months of training and of course the day itself!

The pain of losing a parent at 21, and watching my little brother lose his mum at just 11 years old, is unmatched. The loss has left the biggest hole in mine and my family’s hearts which could never be filled, however I’m hoping that having something to work towards and making El proud on the day will bring a tiny positive into such an awful situation.

Everything I do is for you El! My biggest supporter always. I hope I am making you proud 🤍

I will be so grateful for any donations - they will go to an amazing cause, enabling further research and further clinical trials, allowing others to access the most innovative treatments and boosting their chances of beating this cruel, cruel illness.

If you’ve got this far, thank you for reading!!! Let’s get running!! 🏃🏼‍♀️🤍
