As I prepare to take the leap of a lifetime, I am filled with excitement and anticipation. On August 10, 2024, I will be participating in a skydive to support the Bright Horizons Foundation for Children. Children in crisis need our help, Bright Spaces provide these children with a safe place to play, learn, have fun and build positive relationships. So this personal challenge is about making a meaningful impact in the lives of children in need. With a target amount of £1,000, every donation brings us closer to providing vital resources and support for these young individuals.

I am fundraising towards the £8,000 cost of a new Bright Space for Kent Police to create a Bright Space in Tonbridge police station. The Bright Space will be in 4 areas of the police station which are used by police officers to interview vulnerable children and young people who are victims of or witnesses to crime. It will also be used to accommodate children who have been taken into police protection, until a suitable foster placement can be found, which can involve staying in the police station overnight.

The Bright Space will consist of a waiting room, interview and sleep room, and improve the communal areas of the station, so they are welcoming to children and young people. The Bright Spaces are designed to help children and young people relax and feel at ease before, during and after their police interviews. This is important as it helps children to provide the best possible evidence to secure the conviction of the perpetrators.

Funds will be used to purchase comfortable furniture, soft furnishings, toys, games, books, art and craft supplies, and equipment to make the environments as homely and child-friendly as possible. We will maintain an ongoing relationship with the Kent Police and visit the Bright Space regularly, and replenish and renew the resources as needed, to ensure that every child has a positive experience.
