Story
This January, James and I will be lifting big to raise vital funds for The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and help support life-saving research.
Jane will be lifting the cumulative weight of the 20 Formula One Cars (798kgs per car) plus the weight of all of the 2024 drivers (1,435 kgs per race) and all of the fuel (2,200kgs per race) for all 24 races, totalling just under 500 tonnes of weight to lift in one month (approx 470 tonnes). In addition, James will be aiming to lift 'Christ the Redeemer' at a whopping 635 tonnes. Over 1000 tonnes between us!!
This is in memory of my brother Mark who was a HUGE formula one fan and visited many of the F1 tracks and was also part of an online F1 discussion and Youtube racing community. He also loved to travel so thought an iconic landmark would be good. Mark loved it when we did a similar challenge in his final month with us in January 2024 and he was so blown away by all of your kindness and generosity.
The Royal Marsden Chelsea Head and Neck and Sarcoma teams diagnosed and cared for my dear brother Mark, who suffered from an extremely rare cancer called NUT carcinoma. This aggressive cancer has no known cure and a diabolical survival rate. It took Mark from us in February 2024 after a short 7 month battle. We want to help support more research into rare cancers as well as specialist radiotherapy equipment.
Mark experienced amazing care in the Royal Marsden, from dieticians, physio, music and dog therapy, cyber knife state of the art radiotherapy and experimental chemotherapy. Even though it didn't save him, it kept him positive and supported throughout.
Please donate to our challenge to ensure The Royal Marsden Cancer Charity can continue to support pioneering research and help transform the lives of cancer patients.
