Story

Check out my gallery for GoFundMe page contributors - page merged December 2023. Join me on the training journey from wherever you are - trekking updates can be found in the updates section.

Thanks for taking time to check out my page. In November 2024 I’m going to explore India with Genette Leigh and Jo Prouse trekking through the foothills of the Himalaya’s (official rating is challenging so training has commenced!!)

The challenge begins in Dharamsala where the Tibetan community are situated. Our 5 day trek takes us through rhododendron forests passing through Hindu settlements and Buddhist Monasteries. Whilst in India we’ll have the opportunity to Trek through breathtaking mountain ranges (approx 8-10 hours per day), explore the spiritual home of Dalai Lama, meet the Gaddi tribal people, experience the joys of a sleeper train, camping and one from the bucket list - visit the Taj Mahal.

Why? 1) I have always wanted to explore India, 2) need to get in shape (after the many lovely Ma Salamah's from KSA, welcomes in Qatar and many takeaways whilst in temporary accommodation) and 3) importantly to raise vital funds for St Johns Hospice in Lancaster (info below). As you may know many hospices have been hit hard post pandemic with many relying on volunteers to provide much needed care and support.

My friend Jo experienced first hand the outstanding care from St Johns as they provided end of life care for her husband, Paul, unwavering support and much needed hugs for her.

I’m self funding my kit and the trip so every penny that is raised will go directly to the hospice enabling them to work 24/7 every day of every year, supporting patients and their families at one of the most difficult times in their lives.

Want to help? Kindly contribute to this fundraising campaign. £12,000 EVERY DAY is the amount required to keep the hospice open - check out the info below if you would like to gift against a specific amount of time for the hospice. Every penny really does make a difference, whatever the amount - its really appreciated. Thank you so much for contributing.

I’d be immensely grateful if you could raise awareness by sharing this link with family, friends & colleagues, enabling us to raise as much money as possible to enable us to continue to serve our community.

If you or your loved ones have been impacted by cancer and are comfortable to share your journey with me - please reach out on WhatsApp or email - I’d be grateful to hear your story. Equally if you would like me to trek on their behalf or in memory of someone please let me know. When things get tough, I’ll be pulling on each and every one of those stories to inspire me and push through.

Thanks for your time and let’s make the most of this one and precious life.

Kind regards

Jane xxx

P.s For my brother, Alan, no you may not call me Karla (after Karl Pilkingtons Indian adventure) and yes absolutely I’ll be taking skips and jammie dodgers as well as embracing Indias amazing culture and cuisine. Before you ask yes I know my big toe still needs to grow haha :0))

About St John's Hospice - A big warm hug for not only patients but for all their family are experiences of the vital role St John's Hospice plays and have done so for 38 years! People often say they feel the care and warmth as soon as they step through the door or when the clinical team walk into their homes.

St John's provide care, compassion and support for patients with life limiting illnesses and their loved ones throughout North Lancashire, South Lakes and parts of North Yorkshire across the United Kingdom. They do this through providing in patient care, hospice at home, family support, forget me not centre and fundraising

Services are free for patients and always will be… however, it costs over £5.2 million per year to run. St John's have to raise £3.6 million every year through fundraising. This is achieved through community events, charity challenges, bike rides, concerts, marathons, parachute jumps, raffles, cake sales, coffee mornings and your generous support!

St John's Hospice serve our community in a number of ways:

Hospice at home - team of 31 nurses and health care assistants providing support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days of the year. They help as many people in their own homes as they do on the ward, whatever the weather or time of day or night!

Family support - allows St John's Hospice to care for not just the patient in need of help but also their families and carers, enabling them the best possible support, whether that is from the bereavement team, spiritual care team or social worker. St John's Hospice believe that providing ongoing care and support after the death of a loved one is vital.

On Wednesday 1st June 2022 St John's hospice opened the Forget Me Not Centre, a family and child bereavement centre, funded by a generous private donation. The centre is home to therapeutic support for children and young people aged 4 to 16 and their families who have lost parents, siblings and close relatives.

St John's Hospice have amazing volunteers who give their precious time to support and manage the beautiful vegetable garden providing delicious and highly nutritious food

Please feel free to check their website for further information

Thank you for your support and taking action - I'm truly grateful.
