Story
Lauren, Duncan and Jane met while taking part in the Marathon des Sables in April 2017. If anything was going to make or break a friendship it would be racing 250km across the Sahara Desert by foot, all while carrying their own food/water/sleeping bag etc. Their friendship has only grown stronger since 2017 so much so that when Jane was diagnosed with Clear Cell Sarcoma in December 2021 and a recurrence in October 2023 the trio decided to embark on a fundraising event for the Edward Showler Foundation.
The Edward Showler Foundation is providing ground breaking research into Clear Cell Sarcoma which, given its ultra rare nature, had historically little to no research into its cause and possible treatments. Approximately 1 in 6.5 million people (usually aged between 20 to 40 years old) are diagnosed with this cancer and there currently is no known effective treatment or cure. The Edward Showler Foundation self fundraises for all its research and any donation is greatly appreciated.
The Edward Showler Foundation was set up after Ed himself passed away from Clear Cell Sarcoma at the young age of 28 in June 2017. Even though Ed has paid the ultimate price with his life his parents continue to strive to help others who end up with this terrible diagnosis. The fact they do this, which must be so difficult, is what gives hope to people like Jane and any other person who finds themselves with a Clear Cell Sarcoma diagnosis.
On Saturday August 11th Lauren, Duncan and Jane will attempt to swim 13km in the Thames Marathon 2024. Any support for this event and extremely worthwhile cause is much much appreciated.
Thank you,
Lauren, Duncan and Jane
