Story
In February 1993 John and Carol Nicholl became the Landlords of the Kings Head at Kingscourt. Together they created a cherished community pub which has stood the test of time and remains very popular with the locals.
Sadly John is no longer with us after he lost his battle to cancer at the end of 2022. This came as a huge shock to his family and the Kings Head community and has been a great loss to us all. Keeping John’s memory alive is important to us and we didn’t want this momentous occasion to pass by unnoticed without a celebration.
John and Carol have always had a big heart for charity work and openly welcomed a bit of a knees up or a jolly to raise some serious cash for a good cause. Over the years our pub community has raised thousands of pounds for various causes, regularly holding pub fetes, auction’s, walks, quizzes, raffles, bingo, race nights, you name it, it’s been done! John was a great auctioneer, you would find yourself bidding on a teaspoon for a fiver because of his cheeky persuasive nature. Carol would always be cooking up something delicious in the kitchen or pulling a pint behind the bar. Over the years they raised enough money for two defibrillators, a disability scooter to help a local in need, Gastrells Primary School and literally dozens of charities.
Many of the locals at the Kings Head at Kingscourt have been touched by cancer. Some are living with cancer, some have survived to tell the tale and some are sadly no longer with us. The shocking statistic of 1 in every 2 people will be affected by this horrible disease makes it even more important to our community to do something that will help a charity that supports cancer care. Our chosen charity, Hope for Tomorrow, is a charity that offers chemo treatment on a local mobile cancer care unit instead of regularly travelling miles to hospital.
Even if you cannot attend our celebration events you can still make a donation to help us reach our target.
Best wishes and thank you for your support.
