In February 2023 my beautiful Sister, Leonie, was diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer after an initial misdiagnosis. In April 2023 we were advised she was Stage 4 and it had spread to her liver. On 30th June 2024 we lost her to this evil disease after a brief and horrific 16 month battle.

Through Leonie's own fundraising effort for lifesaving treatment; she made it her mission to spread awareness for earlier detection of breast cancer in young women and we are aware of two cases that have resulted in early diagnosis as a result.

In her legacy; I am participating in a number of fitness events on behalf of Against Breast Cancer (see full list below, with more to be added) in a bid to ensure no other family endures the horrific journey we have.

I am committing to complete a minimum of 29 marathons, which is the age we lost Leonie and where she will remain forever young; plus other events to continue to spread awareness. I currently have 9 marathons secured with 7 of these in 2025.

This will be no easy feat given an already broken body due to Arthritis, but I will get through those pain barriers and complete these, simply because Leonie cannot. I appreciate any support you are able to give.

Against Breast Cancer funds groundbreaking cancer research to improve detection, treatment and increase survival after breast cancer diagnosis. The focus of their research is preventing secondary spread, the main cause of breast cancer related deaths.

The ultimate goal of Against Breast Cancer is to stop secondary breast cancer from claiming lives. Their unique approach is to do this by focusing our research on three key areas: prevention, detection and therapies.
