Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, where I am raising money for St. Luke’s Hospice in memory of my paternal grandfather, Alan Sturt.
My aim is to ascend Mount Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa) during the night to reach the summit by sunrise. I have climbed Snowdon three times before, but under pleasant summer, autumn and spring conditions, never in the dark or in the winter, so this will be a new challenge for me and hopefully worthy of your generous donations! My uncle has decided to join me too, and is also raising funds in memory of my grandad, his father-in-law..
Alan Sturt was not just a treasured husband, father, brother, grandfather and teacher, but also an avid walker who embodied the idea of living charitably. He raised money and gave money to charity on innumerable occasions, most notably by walking 250 miles around the coast of Cornwall to fundraise for the RNLI, and he also gave his time to others, volunteering for over two decades at the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and National Trust. Raising money for a charity in his name is the best way I can think of to honour his life, and I am grateful to St. Luke’s for the care they provided for my grandfather at the end of his life.
Hospices depend so much on donations as they receive such a small percentage of funding from the NHS, yet they provide such a important service, offering end of life care and support and perhaps the best chance of a comfortable and dignified end to one's life. St Luke's need £7.8m of funding each year to continue offering their services, so I hope that together with this fundraiser we can contribute towards this. Just giving £1 does make a difference, and is as appreciated as much as any other amount.
I have chosen JustGiving as it is simple and secure, and it doesn’t require donors to have PayPal or a certain social media platform, so should be accessible to all. Once you donate, they'll send your money directly to the charity and they don’t charge fees, so it’s a good way to get the maximum benefit for St. Luke’s.
Thank you for your generosity!
James
