Story
A Journey for Mindstep: James' Ride from London to Perugia
My name is James, and I am the brother-in-law of Max Davies. Since Max's passing, I have been deeply involved with the Mindstep Foundation, a charity dedicated to suicide prevention research.
As an ambassador for Mindstep and men's mental health, I have participated in numerous fundraising events. And on the 23rd July 2024, I'm embarking on my most ambitious challenge yet: cycling over 2,200km from London to Perugia, Italy, in just 10 days.
Why Take on This Challenge?
The link between exercise and mental health has always fascinated me. For the past six years, cycling has provided me with a sanctuary—a space to process my thoughts and navigate life's ups and downs. It offers a sense of freedom and serves as a form of mindfulness for me.
I am aiming to raise £1,500 for the Mindstep Foundation to support their crucial suicide prevention research at the University of Glasgow.
Preparing for the Journey
While I have been cycling for a long time, this will be my longest unsupported ride. I've been training intensely, gradually increasing my mileage over the past few months to prepare for the journey ahead.
Follow My Progress
You can track my progress and daily updates on my JustGiving page and Strava, where I'll be sharing my rides, images, and distances covered each day.
The Journey Ahead
This solo challenge starts on 23rd July, covering over 2,300 km in approximately 10 days. It's a test of endurance, determination, and a tribute to Max's memory, with the hope of making a difference through Mindstep's work.
